Since finishing all the recording for my next record it’s been exciting to work on new music again.
Thanks for the Add (demo) (5.2MB MP3)
One of my resolutions is to be more fast and loose with the creative output. Obsessing all alone was not helpful or fun.
Update: here are the lyrics for those that asked:
Thanks for the Add (demo)
gimme the mic cause i’m taking my life
in an unexpected new direction
i could care less about your breasts
or that your daddy never gave you very much attention
i’m the same as i used to be but i’m
doing my best to make a good impression
i don’t wanna go on but i don’t wanna belong
in this conditiondid you know that i’m your biggest fan
i just wanna thank you for the add
can i introduce you to my dadi’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m living underground with a fake id
i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m twitching and i’m learning slowlyi’m turning my cell phone on in the middle of the interview
i’m digging a shallow grave to eliminate my point of view
gotta get suggestions how best to get your attention tell you i’m cool
i don’t wanna go on but i don’t wanna be long
in this conditiondid you know that i’m your biggest fan
i just wanna thank you for the add
can i introduce you to my dadi’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m living underground with a fake id
i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m twitching and i’m learning slowly

I like the new demo definetly a 7/10… the only that I don’t like about it is the oooooohhaoooooooo that is in the song at :42 and 1:42…I believe that if you remove that it would make it better and more uniform… at least to me and then Id probably give it a 8 or 9/10

The handclap breakdown is the best part :)

That is totally NOT what I was expecting to hear, but by God is it awesome.
And speaking of the new album, when can I give you money again?

Wow, this is a completely different style than expected but I love it. Except as Captianc said, the oooohhaoooo parts distract a bit. Other than that, absolutely fantastic. Handclaps, FTW

Had a re-listen an hour later, the oohahh part isn’t really working for me, I mixed it down a bunch and re-uploaded.

That’s a wiggly beat! I agree, the breakdown is pretty exceptional. Do my ears deceive me, or is that a Justice-influenced bassline?
Brad on New song demo: Thanks for the Add

Probably Justice/Phones/Mr. Oizo/Daft Punk. I’ve been pretty into the Ed Banger stuff lately.

Ahh, its a bit Oizoish meets Beck but verrryyy nice. The ability to bring the beats n melodies with or without the acoustic points to some serious kickin talent.
Bravo, damn!

Brad love your music. Like the new demo. Sorta agree with some of the commets about the oooh portion. Not that it does not belong in the song but it could be something like in Jimi Hendrix,s Hey Joe would sound good. Keep up the great work…

This song is fun-kay! I really dig the beat, and the attitude. Parts reminded me of The Smashing Pumpinks Ava Adore. Awesome. Are you gonna post the lyrics?

Brad, the new song kicks ass…
Also, I thought I’d let you know, that I was watching a show about holiday shopping on HGTV the other night (lame, I know) and I swear to god that I heard the riff from “making me nervous” used in the background during one of their segments. It was a surreal moment…I was like, “Hey! It’s Brad!”
Just thought I’d let you know…
Thanks for all you do. Your music is awesome…

I love this song. I still think the oohs are a little out of place. Maybe they should be lower in pitch or something. I love the electronic/rock hybrids that you do. Rock on!

Wow, that was something i didn’t expect ;)
Sounds cool!
Am i the only one that thinks there should be more “ooohs”, like increased volume or maybe sung again in another key or somthing? Perhaps slowly increasing the “ooohs” volume around the quacky synth bit?
Sure hope more like this is comming :D
By the way, Brad, are you planning to release source of your demos also? Would like to look around those a bit, see if i can come up with a remix or something…..
Brad on New song demo: Thanks for the Add

I’d feel a bit strange releasing the source before I was really “done” with the song.
I’m pretty shocked at all these “ooh” issues. It kind of reminds me of people hating the “la-la-la”s in Look and Feel Years Younger but I dunno. Fascinating stuff though.

Ok, well maybe i’m a little bit to anxious. The source of your next album is comming up after the release date then?
Also, when i was browsing your site and got to the remix it bit for i don’t know what i’m doing, i got this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: fetch_rss() in /var/www/vhosts/bradsucks.net/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/paged-comments.php(90) : eval()’d code on line 143
at the creative commons section. Thought you liked to know.

Red: thanks for the heads up, fixed now.
And yes I’ll be releasing the source for the new record when it’s out. I’m wondering how to do that exactly as it’s less loop based than the first album but I’m sure it’ll get figured out.

Brad, this demo made me realize something: you have the rare talent to create awesome “hooks” that make pretty much every track you release embed itself right into a listener’s brain, even if it wasn’t at all something he or she were expecting or even used to listening to.
This tracks rocks.

I’ve only just got around to listening to it — very cool! It’s nice to hear you doing new and exciting stuff with your vocal arrangements; the second verse really grabbed me…
(And, for what it’s worth, the “ooh”s are great.)

cant wait for you to release some more material
the bassline and beat remind me of Hadouken!(the band) quite alot
if you dont know them, check them out
the oooo’s are great
and i LOVED the lalala’s in Look and feel years younger

Completely wasn’t what I was ready for yet now I find myself going for the ‘replay’ button. Certainly has a stronger assertive characteristic than the tracks from the previous album.
Nicely done Brad.

Really nice .. i like the “ooo” thing
but the “dead man …” part has a bit confused drums (4 me)
the clap part is really good .. but i guess it could be greater with less fx on the hand

I definitely hear some NIN in there. I’m loving the verses on it, it’s a really interesting sound, I feel like, from what I’ve heard, the second album is a lot more diverse than the first and I’m definitely looking forward to that. I mean, not that I didn’t love the first alum of course. Is there a formal release date?

Nice song, but I have one minor problem with the site. Every song opens twice in VLC. I have Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox 3.6, and the latest VLC. This song rocks, but the electronic loop that keeps repeating seems out of place sometimes.

I dig this big time.
One thing is that the beginning is so fkna awesome.
I kept hoping for more of that vibe and groove as the song went on.
the main chorus is nice, but repeats and repeats, which is your right, but I really love the base line and timing of the first set of lyrics.
Maybe keep that groove longer or come back to it. It is killer for sure
brad, you do not suck.
