Facebook finally has band pages. I made a Brad Sucks one here. These days I’m really despising Facebook, it seems so anti-Internet, full of lock-in and crappiness. Also: we got photos, events and videos for bands — but no music? What in the–

Anyway I’m sure it’s great! Check it out here.

Update: thanks to Justin for showing me what I did wrong. Adblock removed the pulldown menu that included the selection for the musician pages.

Facebook tells me they can’t change the page, so I’ve had to make a new one here. Hooray I’m dumb!

Perhaps they really didn’t like the autoplay thing that myspace has so much that they opted to have no music at all.

How do I become a fan? I see the bandpage has six fans right now, but I can’t find where I need to click to become one.

I think you add it to your “stores” or something weird like that.

Ah, there you go. You might be able to add a music playing “application”. I did a quick search before and there’s at least one that should do it.

I signed up for a page, and there’s definitely a music section. It looks like it’s because you signed up as “Other Business” rather than “Musician.”

It’s still a pretty bum deal. You have to send in a scan of your photo ID to upload music.

eww. facebook is just way to cluttered for my tastes. it seems to me that virb has the friendliest musician layout of any of the networking sites.

“it seems so anti-Internet, full of lock-in and crappiness.”

Agreed. Facebook drives me nuts.

Eric: how the hell do you sign up as a musician? I’m pretty sure the Other Business said something about musicians in it. God, Facebook is infuriating.

When you sign up, it gives you three categories. Local, Brand or Product, and Artist or Public Figure. And it’s under that third category.

Huh, pretty sure that’s what I did. And I just made a new one and it still says “Other Business” on the right side and looks exactly the same.

Huh. I’m a fan now. I did click on the “add stores” thing first, but figured it sounded like it would do something different.

I don’t really get how facebook and myspace got so big. They’re both quite sucky.

Worked for me. Now I just need to figure out why my MP3s are playing at like 95% speed. :o

@c.layne

You can collapse the boxes or hit the x in the corner to remove them completely. You can also shuffle them around by clicking and dragging the title bar. That can make things more manageable.

Facebook has its issues and is certainly more creepy than other sites I’ve used (until you get your privacy settings sorted, anyway), but I’ll take it over the clusterfuck that is MySpace any day.

Ah ha thanks for the photos. Looks like Adblock was keeping the little dropdown from appearing when I clicked “Artist or Public Figure”. I emailed Facebook about getting switched over, we’ll see if the do that.

No problem.

I also discovered that if your song names have Japanese characters your mp3s will not play back at full speed. I tried to tell Facebook this and they told me I was stupid and probably encoded them wrong. :/ Fortunately, this is not likely to affect many people. :D
