A few weeks ago our old rotted deck developed a giant gaping hole. There were many other points of decay on this thing so we decided to tear it out and replace it. Here’s the old one:
We decided to make it bigger and get rid of a lot of the useless raised part. Here’s the finished new one:
In the winter I’ll put the barbecue up on the landing for sub-zero degree barbecuing. But right now I’m gonna try not drilling or lifting anything for a while. Should be awesome. More pictures here if you want them.

Nice Job! The worst part of any job like this is hauling off the old stuff. Get yourself some pots and plant some tomatoes and peppers around the edge of the deck, then skewer and grill them when you barbecue. From plant to grill! Mmmmmm.

If you used new lumber this also probably means you have switched from toxic to non-toxic pressure-treated wood – a very good thing. Hope you kept your gloves on when tearing out the old stuff.

We’ve actually got a pretty large garden (you can see the edge of it at the bottom of picture #2) so the grilling of vegetables is going to be in full effect. Now if we could get a brewery installed we’d be talking.
