CBC Radio 3 made a list of the top 11 declarative band names and Brad Sucks is in there, right on! Here’s the list and I’m in great company:

Personally I have a soft spot for any band name with an exclamation mark in it. You Say Party! We Say Die! is pretty classic. [via]

I bet Godspeed wouldn’t’ve even been included if they used their former band name, “Godspeed You Black Emperor!”

Saw YSP!WSD! here in Edmonton a few weeks ago; their soundguy butchered the mix and blew everyone’s heads off… too bad, as they are a talented group with lots of energy.

I don’t know if “Panic! At the Disco” necessarily counts. Hard for me to say whether that’s declarative or not with the amount of wine I have in me right now. I guess if “Godspeed You! Black Emperor” counts, Panic should.
Also they boned up #5. I’m pretty sure it’s “I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness” (minus ‘the’). Much cooler that way.

Yeah, Panic! is way more declarative than Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Maybe it’s just because I don’t understand what it means.

they did a mashup of The Darkness and I Love You But etc., it seems.
Ken Jennings had a funny bit about exclamation points: I should be unpacking the kitchen right now, but I’m obsessed by this post over on the message boards about TV shows whose titles have exclamation points. I know there must be more of them, but I’m drawing a blank. I can think of lots of shows that should have had exclamation points, though. Like Phyllis! and Cop Rock! Actually, any failed show is funnier with an exclamation point. Also, it makes news shows sound like game shows: Meet the Press! Face the Nation!

Actually, “Godspeed you, Black Emperor” is not declarative. A declarative sentence is nothing more than a statement. Examples: “John went to the store,” “Sally will be getting her hair done,” “My pubes are on fire,” and, yes, “Brad sucks.” They Might Be Giants should be on the list, in my opinion.
As for “Panic! At the Disco,” ignoring the superfluous interstitial punctuation, if it is a sentence, it is imperative. To follow the order, you would have to (a) go the disco, if you aren’t already there, and (b) panic. That said, I’ve always read it as a sentence fragment, like a headline. In that case, to make it declarative, we would have to call it “There was panic at the disco.”

We Are Scientists should be on there. Is Ima Robot declarative? Because it’s supposed to be “I’m a robot”, but it’s spelled “Ima” as if it’s a name.
