Zach wrote in to tell me that he heard a version of my song Dirtbag in a Fark.com trailer mashup contest. The entry is by Mike Hindes and called Toy Story 2 Requiem. It’s a hilarious mash-up trailer of the movies Toy Story 2 and Requiem for a Dream.

(15mb WMV) (Warning: there’s some R-rated language.) Very awesome. It almost makes me glad I sat through 90% of Requiem for a Dream so I could find this extra funny. Almost. I’ll never forgive that movie.

I also like how absurd the level of mashup-ness is getting on my music. “Hey, an Israeli remix of your song was used in a movie trailer mashup!” Say what now?

I don’t know what you didn’t like about RfaD, but I can see Jennifer Connelly having a grudge: I’ll never be able to see her in another serious role without thinking of that scene in the office.

It’s been a while since I watched it, but I remember Requiem for a Dream just being one huge downer after another. Like someone just made a list of horrifying things people could do or have happen to them and then expected me to watch and enjoy it.

I hated it and if I ever meet the director or writer I’m going to try my best to depress them.

You are aware of what Requiem means, right? ;-)

I’ll agree that it was a downer: but it was a powerful downer with a completely original style. But I also liked his first movie: Pi.

It was certainly a well made movie, lots of people recommended it to me, but it was torture to watch.

I just have no real need for downer movies. I have a built-in ability to be sad that requires no stimulation.

what’s with the “credit” for Dirtbag on the remixer’s site?
http://www.hommega.com/hommegaShop.php?curSubj=&artistID=&curPrdID=68&prdCat=albums

“The opening track of this magical journey – “Dirtbag”, is actually a radio song written by Psy Craft and produced by no other than Infected Mushroom.”

‘written by Psy Craft….’ what’s up with that?

great use of the remix in the trailer though. Very cool. (and I liked “Requiem…”)

No idea. Pretty sure I remember writing the song though.

Mike, one of your american fans here… I think your music could totally be coupled with some big-time media like movie trailers and such, it’s got a unique touch..

Once again, a new fan by way of film. I must say you’re a very talented guy. I went ahead and bought the album if nothing more than to show support.

I know the trailer was a joke, and intended to be humourous, but the imagery coupled with your music made it strikingly moving in a ridiculous sort of way.

You have yet another new fan.

Yeah this trailer lead me to this site which has thus lead me to the most amazing music of all time. I listen to elliott smith, tom petty, CCr and bradsucks is my new favorite one man band. Purely amazing- I dont understand why more people have’nt made this a bigger success (money wise) but I can see it blowing up soon. Hope you get the fame you deserve I am sending all of my friends the link.

I have been a fan of your music for a while and was surprised to hear your song kick in while watching this video! While, I agree that Requiem for a Dream is one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen, I think that it makes a powerful statement about addiction in much the same way that American History X makes a powerful statement about racism.

Best,

evan

Classic. I’ll be checking out more of your music now, too!

I have to say I thought Requiem for a Dream was brilliant, and people who cry-babied over it should toughen up.

If you’d met Hubert Selby Jr., the writer of Requiem (or at least of the novel it was based on) while he was alive I doubt you’d have been able to depress him any more than he already was. Apart from anything else he was brain-damaged from birth. No joke. (And he claimed at one point that none of the characters were allowed to die at the end because “They haven’t suffered enough yet.” Geez.) Check out his infamous Last Exit to Brooklyn as well.

I’m still disappointed the director of Requiem never got to make the Batman movie he had planned.

I must have watched the Toy Story / Requiem mashup a couple dozen times before I finally realized where that awesome song was from. (I had thought it was from the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, I guess.) So you could say that I was a fan way before the trailer remix, but not so big a fan as to instantly recognize it…

Watched the Toy Story trailer, found it hilarious, and watched it a few more times. Little did I realize that your song dirtbag was stuck in my head for nearly 3 days, which lead me to find your site. I am listening to some of your songs now and find them pretty amazing, great stuff!
