Since I’ve been dragging my gear around for the live Brad Sucks practices lately, I’ve been getting annoyed at all my cables being tangled constantly.
I remembered reading about Velcro Grip Ties that are meant for plants but allegedly work great on cables.
I swung by the nursery tonight and picked up 18 feet of 2″ wide Velcro Tree Tie for $7.99 Canadian dollars. So far I’m hella impressed. It’s sturdy and my cable bag is far more organized. And I have this compulsive urge to go neatly velcro-tie every cable I own.

I don’t know how much of this is urban myth but I’m told you want to make sure to uncoil your guitar chords once on stage (and studio) because when coiled up all nice and neat, especially bound by a handy garden tie they act as conductors that attract hum and buzz.

I’ve never heard that before, but that’s not saying much. I’ve heard that rolling up cables puts undue strain on them and will lead to them fraying/breaking. But I’m sure yanking them out of tangled up balls isn’t much good for them either.

…well, yea, and once you’ve used it to tie down your car battery it tends to short out (this I know first hand)
