I went to a lot of record label websites tonight looking at shopping carts. When I was on the Warner site I noticed that ringtones are given almost equal prominence to the actual band stores. A Flaming Lips ringtone is $2.50, which of course is 150% the price of a song on iTunes. That is nuts to me.

yeah, i still don’t understand what’s wrong with a phone sounding like a phone. what if i’m listening to the flaming lips and my phone rings? i just missed a call.

Don’t forget: the sound quality is worse, you can’t use the song on any other device, and you have to give it up after 3 months. When you look at it that way, $2.50 is a bargain!
