Preventing comment spam – looks like all the major search engines are implementing a way to hopefully curb blog comment spam. I started getting a few hundred a day recently so this is great news.

I haven’t gone to that link yet, because I’m really afraid that their solution doesn’t involve hunting down comment spammers and chewing on their brains. What? It’s nothing more than they deserve.

My blog is now running Spam Karma, and it seems to be ok so far. It has that thingy where you type the word in the picture to verify you’re human, but it only shows that to you if it thinks you’re a spammer– so most legit commenters won’t see that.
The problem with google’s dealy is that it will only stop comment spam if the comment spammers know about it. They can still comment spam all day long, it’s just that their spamming will be for nought. Once they recognize that, then hopefully they’ll curtail their nefarious activities, and Google’s ploy will have been successful.

Yeah, and there will still be vulnerable blogs out there for quite some time until people upgrade, which can take forever.
Spam Karma is what I installed here as well. I haven’t gotten any comment spam since, which is nice. Though I think it may be hassling commenters a bit more than I’d prefer. But anything beats having to manually kill hundreds of comment spams a day.
