Here’s a pretty rough exchange between Fightmaster Jr. (one administer of Songfight!) and an editor at Wikipedia as Fightmaster tries to get some inaccuracies fixed in the weird Songfight entry. The editor’s rant is indented.
I can understand the editor’s perspective and the difficulties inherent in an open editing environment, but can’t understand the seriously nasty attitude. The current Songfight entry weirdly fixates on the number of fight entries — which has never been that big of a deal — and ignores a lot of other good Songfight info. Which is fair enough, but it’s kind of insane that hissy fits get thrown when the best authority on the item in question offers some revisions.

i think it boils down more to the editor of the piece didn’t like being questioned about his “editing”, no matter how off it was. he seemed to think songfight should be grateful for any sort of mention, accurate or not. his defensive reaction makes me also think he’s probably been questioned before.

It’s difficult to contribute to a Wiki, despite what folks might imagine. Much like a newspaper, the content is tightly controlled by iron-fisted editors who have their own set of interests to preserve. There’s nothing democratic about it.
That being said, my advise would be to forget about it. Few people who have interest in Song Fight will find out about it through Wikipedia. It’s like getting irritated over a mediocre album review in a gardening magazine.

I agree with the wiki guy and it seems like jr is embarassing SongFight! in there.

Neither of them sound all that great at having a scholarly argument (hey, an encyclopedia calls for such things, right?), but I agree with FightMaster Jr.. I’m biased, obviously.
