Looks like Winamp 5 (lite and standard) is out. At first glance they seem to have undone a lot of the awful that was added in Winamp 3.

They also put the playlist time total back in, which actually was the number one reason I bailed on 3, as strange as that seems.

Update: looks like this may still be a wacky beta release. I’m actually running it and it works fine, but you may want to hold off till it’s on

Update #2: definitely jumped the gun, it’s now up on and the installation and program are signficantly different. So far so good though.

according to the winamp forums, that isn’t really the final version, it’s the beta version labeled the final version, in fact, according to the forums, it’s an older beta version.

So I’m not downloading it until it’s on the site, in order to wait until it is the true release.

i got those links from sawg, the go-to guy on their forum’s moderation team, so i’m pretty sure that they’re the real deal. that’s all moot though, ’cause if you go to, they’ve already updated their main site and put up some official downloads.

I’d try it, but I won’t waste my time. Quintessential Player is much better.

Hell yes! Thank you for saying that!
