Oh man, I wish I had thought of this. Instead of trying to undercut everybody by selling her CDs at almost cost, Marissa Marchant is charging more than everyone:
4 album set available for $2000.00 and $1000.00 for one cd. This is how much music should be worth, if there is talent there. They are cheapening music and talent, by selling it like it is fried chicken at kfc. I am not one dimentional. I am a singer, arranger, producer, and multi instruemntalist.”
That’s totally brilliant! As an indie, selling my stuff for $5 and giving away the MP3s, I have to practically BEG people to put it on Kazaa and swap it around to their friends. If I were to jack the price up to say… a MILLION DOLLARS A SONG (since along with all her many credits I also do the recording, engineering, computer tech work, mixing and mastering for my stuff), maybe people would get more of a thrill out of stealing my tracks. Jeebus, I hope that’s a joke site because she’s really quite full of herself.
“Marissa is mostly spending time recording, but will perform for an appreciative audience, who realizes the value of art, not commericalism.”
Those crazy artists that perform for money at smelly little bars full of *gasp* uncultured types! How DARE they!
It’s a good laugh, reading the ‘about’ page on her site.

“Nothing imperfect will be on my cds.”
She’s certainly quite out of tune on “Days Go By.” Some of her other stuff is good, but not amazingly amazing, and certainly not worth what she’s asking. Whether or not we like it, culture (including music) is a commodity, and is subject to market forces.
You know what would be interesting? An entertainment futures market, perhaps by locale. You could trade and speculate on the cost of CDs, movie tickets, books, etc. I wonder what THAT would do to the market.

I remember this person going on about how brilliant her stuff was (and how much everyone else sucked) on the old MP3.com message boards.
Belittling your audience and peers doesn’t seem like a very good career move.

Well, she’s nothing special, but charging a thousand bucks for a CD is pretty funny. You should try it, Brad; who knows, there might be a few rich guys out there who like your music and have a sense of humour. It’s not like you’ve got much to lose. ^_^

Well, it looks like she’s gotten some feedback on her, er, innovative pricing scheme. Here’s her response:
“Eres is not reading email from anyone who has not donated money to marissa(at the bottom of the music section). It will be deleted. I decided to take my music off. You don’t deserve to hear great music. You are a filthy culture of money loving bastards. You steal from musicians. You deserve the crap on the radio, I will have to fund the recordings and buy the piano and isolation booth. After I complete my genius material. I will give you 8 second clips. That is all. No full song, and I will charge 10 thousand dollars for my genius material. Now please go buy junk….leave me alone. I need money to do five albums on the highest level. I am better then everyone in the industry. But I don’t have anything to prove. You do. You destroyed the music industry by stealing peoples music and not supporting the arts, I kick everyones behind in this industry. but I enjoy it for myself. I don’t lose. You lose, by downloading music for free without investing in talent. I don’t want to prove something to a moronic culture that basically masturbates as their only hobby. I don’t want to give my jewels to people who are covered in tatoos…and piercing. Let them enjoy their junk and Mc.Donolds culture of ugliness.”
All this negative energy is only making her stronger!

That was the single best comment on the musicindustry I’ve EVER heard bar none. Brilliant.
And if she is serious (a cup of irony anyone?) it’s even MORE hilarious. :D

“I have very high standards. I am not a slut. I am not low class. I don’t curse in my music. I dance very well too.” She certainly has a lot to prove, doesn’t she? When was the last time you heard a statesperson or diplomat with a nice private school education spoke like this? “Me no bum! Me rich! Oog! Me dance good like, see what? Oog!” I giggle at her claims that she is no slut. Last I saw it, a “slut” was a label, as well as behavioral characteristics, so I call her A {insert cursewords here} SLUT!!!!!! Funny, very funny!!

Well, it looks like she’s given up music altogether and taken up peddling snake oil:
“Hello, I have decided not to perform anymore. I have also decided not to share my new material with anyone. I got the impression for years, that people don’t like my music, because they didn’t send money and only talked about people in hollywood, and talked to me like I am inferior. I have to fund my music. But people aren’t interested enough in music to help musicians. However, I am selling Young Living products and essential oils. These oils are theraputic grade, these are ancient healing modalities. This is an extremely great company. They are on the cutting edge. If you want to learn about essential oils and the products at Young Living please contact me. Directly. I am not here to speak about my music anymore. As far everyone is concerned I am not a professional musician. I want to help people with their health, their healing and happiness. These oils are totally certified organic. They are potent. They can be used for many purposes and there are also cosmetic products. Peace to you, Marissa Marchant”

Is she full of baloney? Yes. Is this a really off the wall marketing tactic? Yes. If she sells ONE FREAKING BOX SET, is she covered -with a fat profit- for this batch of oatmeal she’s flogging? Oh, yeah!
Maybe her target audience is domintrix johns.

You are a bunch of dumb jocks. MM is a serious musician and prolific composer. Not like you are.
You are people who don’t know anything about music or artist.
