Well, I think the time has come for me to pack up my little songs and put them on an album. I don’t think I’ll sell many, but it seems like a good idea if only for categorization purposes. “That’s my old stuff where I was indie, this is my new stuff where I totally sold out.”
I haven’t decided yet how I’m going to do this. I’ve been wondering for a while now whether I should just slap better quality versions on a CD in chronological order and call it a day or if I should make an attempt to revise and edit the songs and try somehow to make a more cohesive package out of them.
Just putting the songs as-is on an album feels a bit like a cop-out and it’s also troubling how bad some of the recordings sound to me now. However, trying to fix up my old songs seems like it might be a big fat waste of time that I could be spending making new music. Also it might drive me totally insane.
I am posting this mostly to shame my future self if I wuss out or for some reason don’t follow through with this simple goal.

Brad, you have GOT to get more regular visitors. I’m disappointed that I, a rather casual Brad Sucks fan, am the first to give an encouraging comment on this possibly awesome project.
Firstly, let me tell you that the ONLY way you will ensure a purchase from my general direction is if you make some good liner notes that take me at least a good minute or so to read. I love good liner notes that are entertaining, not just lyrics and pictures of the band and whatnot…I need text, damn it!
I also hope you do new material for the album, or at least revisions of the old songs. They should all be in certain categories that feel right on one album, too. Putting a rap song followed by a hard rock song would just be pretty stupid, you know? Gotta go for a particular direction…

An album would be great, I probably won’t buy it beacuse I’m such a cheap bastard, but it would be great anyway.

I visit brad’s site but don’t comment on his projects when I probably should. This like all of his stuff is awesome. Why is it brad’s fault he doesn’t have more visitors? Why don’t you help him Jakob. You only have yourselves to blame.

The same could be said to you, you know.
But that’s not the point, I wasn’t telling him it was his “fault” that he doesn’t have enough visitors. I just think that he needs more. Don’t look at me to promote his site, I’ve got a plethora of things I should be doing now…Frankly, I don’t even know why I’m jerking around online. *shrugs*

I support this album idea, sorry, I tend to just tell brad how awesome he is on IRC, it seems kind of redundant to say it here, since it’ll slide off the bottom of the site anyway.

Jakob: You’ve complained about my lack of fans before. What should I do to get more people here?
I don’t know whether there will be liner notes. They tend to drive up the price of the CD production and rarely say anything useful other than thanking the band’s various homies. Maybe I should skip the whole album thing and just sell liner notes to go with my mp3s.
As for new material, it’s unlikely that I’ll have any album-only tracks. If that means you don’t buy it because you’re happy with the mp3s on the site, that’s cool with me. I’m not doing it for the sales and trying to force or trick a couple of people into buying it seems pointless to me.

Well, I guess the liner notes idea is out the window then…selling liner notes with MP3s wouldn’t work too well, and I admit my case of deeming the liner notes second to nothing but the music itself is very rare.
As for getting people to come here, that’s going to be difficult. I imagine posting your song on somesongs got you some attention, and I bet that sending material to different websites like somesongs would get even better. Also, trading links with other artists like yourself would help, too. If you post on any message boards, put a link in your signature…just some ideas, those should definitely help.

I send as much traffic brad’s way as I possibly can, there are probably a whole load of people who download the music but don’t see the point in posting a comment. Don’t ask me why these people are like that, they just are, why not ask them?
ass.

I send people here, but they either don’t come or don’t like it.

I come here and I like it. I have linked to you from my site. I forget how I got here to start with, but does it matter? It seems to me, Brad, that you post your songs here for nobody but yourself(please correct me if I’m wrong). That others enjoy them is just a bonus of the magic interweb. Just spread the word and play the tunes when you have 600 people over for a houseparty. Or something.
