For the past month I’ve been thinking about selling my sampler and buying one of these things:
It’s an electronic drum pad/kit thing. You hit it with sticks and it makes drum sounds.
But I’m not 100% convinced I’d actually use this thing and I’m not sure it’s worth $250 US to find out.

If you’re into doing digital rhythm tracks, one word: FruityLoops.

Think old-school Dr. Rhythm taken to the blue limit. Tweak, tweak, tweak, then export to WAV and throw it into ProTools or Cubase or whatever. And unlike myself, it never makes a mistake. ;) Considerable less expensive than a drum synth (or hiring a live drummer).
Oh, and you can do all kinds of techno crap on it too. :)

I’ve played around with Fruity Loops and other drum sequencers but I find unless you get all crazy on the editing everything sounds very robotic and lifeless, which is the default when you’re using computers.
I kind of want something that gives me a live drum feel without having to buy, store, learn to play and mic a real drum kit. I’m not sure if drum pads would do the trick or not. I’ve never done any drumming before whatsoever, so I’ll suck. Hmm.

I kinda like the Yamaha DD55. I use it with Cakewalk and a sound blaster. I tend to just do a few bars of the main beat(s) and add fills afterward.
You don’t really need to be a great drummer to get a nice groove on.
I have to agree with the Josh your songs are very “fuckin” good!

I have been using Fruityloops for some time now, and I found that it is one hell of an amazing all in one. I mean it does well in what ever musical area you want to focus, it is the only sequenser I use at the moment, and it has satisfied all my need. I believe that realistic drum lines are no biggie, just got to drumsyth… live- then to that channels pianoroll- then make your pater, when done press ctrl+q to reach the pianoroll’s quantizer, then go throughtthe preset of groves or make your own…
